A group - Nigerian Wailers has condemned in what it termed, " conflicting and unclear monetary policies , '' by the central bank of Nigeria

thereby unleashing severe hardship and misery on the people.
It said, the policy which involves sharp practices in Forex tradings sees the apex bank selling the Dollar at a cheaper rate to the Federal government, some few politicians and some rich cabals who in turn sell at the black market at highly exorbitant rates of N500 to $1 , a development among others, it said have led to inflation in the country.
In a statement signed by both its convener, Adeyanju Deji and co-Convener, Adeoye Adelaja it said that its members and other well-meaning Nigerians would be embarking on a peaceful procession tagged, OCCUPYCBN, on Friday the 13th of January 2017 to condemn the illegalities at the apex bank which have dealt a heavy blow to the Naira, bringing it to an all-time knee-level of exchanging at N500 to $1, a situation that has further impoverished especially the poor citizens of this country.

Debate on budget to be commence by the senate nextweek

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has revealed that the Red Chamber will commence debate on the 2017 budget document next week.
Saraki who spoke on Tuesday when the Senate reconvened after a 3-week Christmas break, also revealed that the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) will be passed Thursday.
Saraki assured that Nigerians will be carried along throughout the process of budget consideration by the relevant committees of the Senate.
He noted: “It is therefore imperative that we immediately begin work earnestly on the MTEF to ensure passage by the end of the week. In this way, consideration and debate on the 2017 budget will immediately follow in the 3 “sitting days” of the next week.
“It is our hope that we will with this budget begin the implementation of the report of the Committee on Budget Reforms, which has since submitted its report. This will enable more Nigerians participate in the budget consideration process, deepen the review and create the necessary efficiencies we expect from our budget implementation.”
The Senate President reiterated the need to ensure that the 2017 budget is well scrutinized in order to pass the most successful budget in the history of the National Assembly.
He said: “The National Assembly will not tolerate agencies of government not submitting their budgets within the budget period. This is why I urge all agencies yet to submit their budgets to do so quickly as budgets not received within time may have to wait for the next budget circle.”
Decrying the hardship in the country, Saraki urged his colleagues to double their efforts in ensuring that economic reforms bills currently before the Senate are given speedy passage.
“Distinguished colleagues, as long as our economy is still in recession, our work is not done. Because our people are still being laid off; so long as factories are closing shop, for as the hardship in the land continues to bite harder, investment continues to dwindle and the foreign exchange market remains fragmented, I will be demanding even much more from us to get all our economic reform bills passed.
“Ideally we would like to see them pass together with the 2017 budget. Let me therefore urge all our committees involved with our priority bills to double efforts to ensure that by the end of the first quarter of this year we will have these bills ready,” Saraki added.

5,140 Tourists visited first storey building in Nigeria in 2016

The facility manager of the site, Mr Hodonu Daniel, said in Badagry that the tourists that visited the 171-year-old- structure in 2016 were higher than the corresponding years. 
The foundation of the building was laid in 1842 and construction work on the building was completed in 1845.
“We have been able to attract more tourists to this site because of the proper maintenance of the place and we have been able to preserve its originality.
“In year 2015, those that visited the site were 3,457 but we were able to increase the number due to the historic nature of this site.
“The peak period is usually during Christmas, New Year, Easter, Sallah and whenever students are in session.
He said that Nigerians should be more patriotic in visiting the various monuments in the country.
“Nigerians should imbibe the habit of visiting the various museums and monuments in the country in order to boost tourism development in the country.
“Students patronise the building more than others and that isn’t good enough,” he said.
He urged the Federal Government to support the management in giving the building a facelift noting that it was only the Anglican Church that had been carrying out that task.

Saraki gave this indication while speaking with State House correspondents after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja yesterday.
Saraki said: “ In 2017, our attention will be on the economy because that is really a major issue for us as a country. We want to see some of the economic bills put forward passed, to see that there is greater improvement in the budget process in 2017, and to see that the government implements the budget early.”
“Also, one of our pet projects is made-in-Nigeria products. We want to see that government continues to support Nigerians in this area so that we can begin to cushion the difficult times Nigerians are going through.”
“So, next year is very important to us and I think, on the part of National Assembly, we will continue to give our support to ensure that the right things are done,” he said.
He further noted that the senators achieved more in the last three months than they did in the entire year, adding that the National Assembly is settling down and, as such, Nigerians would see many more bills passed for the president to assent, as reported by Today.
On the president’s signing of 17 bills into law, Saraki said,
“It shows, in part, what we have been able to do in the National Assembly and there are many more bills to come and the president is also responding to them. You are going to see more of that in 2017; there are a lot of bills lined up.”

Nigeria in trouble as kerosene price rises by 60% percent

One of the most essential commodity found in the household of majority of Nigerians, has increased by 60 percent in Kaduna as Nigerian lament over price hike.
The price of Kerosene, an essential household commodity, has increased by 60 per cent in Kaduna, from N1,100 a gallon in December, 2016 to N1,600 in first week of January 2017.
Dealers of the product told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Friday, that the products suddenly became scarce and expensive, which was responsible for the sharp increase in the price.
One of the dealers, Joyful Adeyemi, told NAN that she bought kerosene in December, 2016 at N47, 000 a drum and sells a gallon between N1, 100 and N1, 200.
“Only for the price to increase to N72, 000 a drum as at yesterday. This change forced me to increase the price to N1, 600 a gallon; otherwise, I will be running at a loss.
“More so, the product is scarce. I had to part with extra money to be able to get the quantity I needed,” she said.
Another dealer, Sammy Bodam, said that patronage had drastically reduced due to the hike in the price.
A consumer, Jamila Abubakar, said that the sharp increase had made life very difficult for the common man and urged government to do something about it.
“If not because we do not have an option, nobody will use kerosene again. This is because firewood is equally expensive, difficult to use and environmentally unfriendly, coupled with the accompanying health issue
